Official Singles Chart will not account for video streaming data ...

Unlike the Billboard US music charts, the Official Charts company in the UK has said that it will not take into account video streaming data in the compilation of the Official UK Singles Chart.

Noting the differences between the way the charts are compiled by the two organisations, Martin Talbot, managing director, Official Charts Company, said: ?The Hot 100 has never been a purely sales-based chart, incorporating data such as radio airplay since the Fifties.

?In contrast, the UK's Official Singles Chart has been a purely sales based chart ever since it launched in 1952. With singles sales currently at an all-time high following nine years of continued year-by-year growth, there are currently no plans to incorporate streaming information in the UK."

The UK organisation currently recognises streaming data in a separate Official Streaming Chart.

Last week, Billboard and Nielsen revealed that YouTube streaming data would be used to compile the Hot 100 chart, captured by the Nielsen streaming measurement including Vevo, as well as user-generated clips that utilise authorised audio.

This adds to the Hot 100 formula that also includes Nielsen?s digital download track sales and physical sales, terrestrial radio airplay, on-demand audio streaming and online radio streaming and radio streaming, also tracked by Nielsen.

The change affects the Hot 100 formula based genre charts: Hot Country Song, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, R&B Songs, Rap Songs, Hot Latin Songs, Hot Rock Songs and Dance/Electronic Songs.

As a result of the new data incorporation, internet viral sensation Harlem Shake debuted at No.1 on both the Hot 100 and the Streaming Songs chart, having racked up over 100 million views on YouTube.
